In the US there really isn't much of a price difference between Microdrives and solid state CF right now. Maybe the same is true in Australia if you look around some more? 1gb Microdrives are about $200 (the best deal that I've seen is actually local to me, Kenmore Camera (http://www.kcamera.com) had 1gb Microdrives packaged with 4 NiMH cells and a charger for $200). These are both slower CF devices, so the Microdrive would be faster, but if you aren't shooting sports or other action photos that probably isn't an issue.
