In the US there really isn't much of a price difference between
Microdrives and solid state CF right now.  Maybe the same is true
in Australia if you look around some more?

1gb Microdrives are about $200 (the best deal that I've seen is
actually local to me, Kenmore Camera (http://www.kcamera.com) had 1gb
Microdrives packaged with 4 NiMH cells and a charger for $200).

Newegg has 1g SimpleTech solid state CF for $204:

Both are after rebates have been applied.  These are both slower CF
devices, so the Microdrive would be faster, but if you aren't shooting
sports or other action photos that probably isn't an issue.  I'd rather
have more capacity than more speed.
