no, or you wouldnt need to buy UV filters. I do remember reading something from pentax stating that the SMC coatings absorb UV though. JCO
I've seen that also, that one of the layers was in fact a UV filter.
Once, I tried shots with and without a UV filter at high altitude (where UV rays are supposedly more intense), and I found no difference.
