When I was in grad school studying biochemistry
years ago, we used normal glass tubes for regular
visible spectrophotometry, but quartz tubes (much
higher priced) for UV spectrophotometry.  The quartz
passed much more UV than regular glass, but I don't
know how much it absorbed.
