Current 645 digital backs are around $16,000. So if Pentax could sell a 645 digital body for less than that they would have a good position in the professional market. However, I already went through all this back in the MZ-D days. Deja vu.

A full frame 645 sensor isn't impossible, it is just going to give very
low yields. I wonder whether it would be possible to do a sensor cluster
and stitch the output together via software?
