Sigma technologies are based on reverse-engineering which means what work on the current cameras might not work on upcoming models. There have been many complaints on this matter and in some cases, the regional distributors will offer one free chip upgrade, and other time they will charge you for that. In the worst case, chip upgrade is not possible because Sigma decided not to. So, while the initial investment might sound tempting, might prove to be a rip-off eventually. Also ED was employed to correct aberration, not flare. But the degree of correction is unknown. I used to be a Sigma user, but not anymore. And I have been reading complaints on their coating deterioration, glasses deterioration (due to humid atmosphere perhaps), flare problem, mechanical failure & electronic capability problems. Just too many to recommend really.

Capability problems? Could you elaborate a bit, thanks. I've heard the new
one's got an ED element or something. Supposedly controls flare well, but
need to get some real reviews first.. And when you say avoid Sigma, do you
mean ALL Sigmas??
