Automatic flash turns the camera into a P&S mode where the camera determines
whether the flash fires or not.  So, if you have the RTF up, or a dedicated
flash on the shoe, if the "lightning bolt" is flashing, the flash will
automatically fire, otherwise it won't.  In normal flash mode, it fires all
the time.
