Hi Trevor, Smaller numbers are generally better, going up the scale you've also got the MZ-3 (very very similar to the 5n, but slightly upgraded- might as well be a MZ- 5n II) and if you've got a few extra bucks you can forgo the letters and get an MZ-S. Yes the 5n is an upgrade of the 5, it's got DOF preview (very useful in macro or hyperfocal distance manual focusing) and I think the 5 doesn't have auto-bracketing either. No the 7 isn't really more advanced than the 5, it's just the 5 has a different interface and control layout. The 5 has its buttons and knobs well laid out, with practically each feature with its own button, so allowing you more flexibility in controlling your exposures. The 7 gives you presets, which depending on your purpose for the camera, you may find useful or restrictive.. I think the 6 (or MZ-L) is more similar to the 7 than the 5n, but it gives you wireless connectivity if you get an AF360FGZ flash, a feature which unfortunately, is missing on the 5n. On a more superficial note though, the 5n's got a nice finish. Anyway, like Boris pointed out, there's the 6 (MZ-L) to consider as well, and once again depending on your personal preferences, it's a toss up between that and the 5n. In the price range I think you're looking at, another one that you might come across would be the newish *ist film body. I've heard mixed reviews- I personally wouldn't get one, but you'll have to hear about that body from someone with more first hand experience.
Good Luck! Ryan BTW, If you're in Aus "OZ", you might want to consider buying mailorder from the States. I bought a 5n new from Photocontinental (Bris) for about AUD$650, and including shipping and with the occasional possibility of being charged import duty you'll save between AUD100-200 buying online. Also, if you watch Ebay, you should be able to get a used one (maybe even with a battery grip) for about half that price, and not get taxed at all. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trevor Bailey" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, December 15, 2003 4:37 PM > G'day all. > I have the option of buying MZ-7, MZ-5 or MZ-30. > Which of these ( in the list's learned opinion) would be the best buy > for general photography? > Is the MZ-7 more advanced than the MZ-5? > > Why is there a MZ-5n? is it an upgrade of the MZ-5? > > Sorry for all the questions.
