I sometimes have the same problem with the AF360.  Probably 1/3 to 1/2 of my
flash photos are underexposed enough to be objectionable.  I'm going to try
center weighted metering instead of matrix, and if that doesn't cure the
problem, I'll try autoflash instead of TTL flash.  It seems to occur
randomly and so far I haven't been able find any consistent reason, such as
focal length, distance to subject etc. that causes it to occur on a regular
basis.
