Well I did some research on the web and while no manufacturer gives detailed info, it is apparent that all commercial digital printers are quite limited machines, built around now obsolete processors (PII 150 MHz in the Agfa case!). Now wonder it can't handle large, 48bit tiffs. Even if the printing process is capable of more than 255 tones per channel, the intermediate link that is the image processor most likely can't.
