Um, right :) > Seems there are a couple of Canadians who are pretty good at it, eh? I > think a music prof from McGill got to the finals (he was defending champ, > but couldn't repeat). Man, the words these people come up with! Quite > amazing! > > Anyway, that's great news. Joel Wapnick is the music prof - my picture of him is on the back of his (now out of print) book about Championship strategy and there is a link to his CD (that was basically that book revised) from my homepage - the CD has a bunch of my photos in it but Joel's musical and Scrabble talents far exceed his skills at putting together a CD visually. I've heard it is pretty good and the filmmakers did visit our New York club, I may in fact have been a blurry figure in the background :) If you look at the stuff about my WINNERS calendar you should now recognize a few of the faces from that film you watched. The Vegas tourney was back in 1995, but the same guy won it that won the ALL STARS that has now been on ESPN2 a bunch of times - sadly, the Canadians don't get to see it because your gov won't show ESPN stuff for some reason. Especially regretful as one of the better things about the ALL Stars broadcast was Robin Daniel's color commentary Now I KNOW you saw her in the documentary and if you she didn't stand out we have to examine your priorities :) The Canadians certainly have their share of champs, but Wapnick was NY born, though he hasn't lived in the states for over 20 years. My days of Scrabble glory are probably gone forever - but I've played all those guys and have come in 2nd or 3rd to both the Joel's a couple of times. I played David Gibson in what may have been is first tourney win - I don't think I ever beat him, though. ann
