I'm pretty sure it *will* support "A" lenses. See below.

I have little doubt that electronic (in the lens) aperture control is
coming eventually - there's just no way to avoid it if Pentax is going
to avoid being left behind by everyone else (and thus going out of
business - which none of us wants, right?)

My guess is that the aperture indicator tab (or "aperture simulator" or
whatever you want to call it) has been removed because new control
contacts are going be added in that location. The reason for adding
these new electrical connections instead of using the present ones in
the lens mounting flange itself would be sou you can have both (and thus
preserve backward compatibility with "A" lenses).

In other words, we're giving up backwards compatibility with K and M
lenses so that we can maintain compatibility with A lenses in the coming
electronic lens mount.
