I had assumed that Boris was talking mPixels rather than Mbytes. 24mP would be a 
standard full res scan from a 35mm negative. 6mP would be the same as the *ist-D.

    (Coolscan 4000, Imacons) but there are times I'd want to outsource some
    scanning.
    
    A 24mb JPEG isn't that large - color film, right?  I think I was getting 48+mb
    with the Coolscan from Leica and LX negatives.  Oh wait, that was with TIFF or
    PSD files.  Why do you want such small files as 6mb? Why JPEG files and not TIFF
    or PSD?
