i'm looking at a high end Misubishi with builtin color calibration. still under $1K complete. my NEC 5FG is now about 10 years old and there are a lot of ominous crackling sounds from the picture tube for about 5 minutes after it gets turned on. main thing is that its contrast isn't what it should be. the phosphors have faded a lot.
