Hi Dave,
The reading of the meter should change when pointed to different lights, so,
as you describe it, I think that LX does not work properly.
It's a normal behaviour for an LX without film to set a speed longer than the
one displayed under 1/30s, because the OTF metering reads directly on film for
long exposures, so the absence of the film itself lets the reading to be done
on the black surface of the pressure plate (I had a minute of fear when it
first happened with my first LX...).
It's not your case, I guess. :(
Anyway, the red light was fixed or flashing slightly? I mean the shop
assistant put fresh batteries in the camera?
