Hi Cory,
The starting point is my current car:

http://www.imps4ever.info/specials/bolwell.html

It's a fun car but is not competitive due to its very small engine. The
smallest class size you normally see nowadays is up to 1600cc so I'm
usually at a large disadvantage, even with the low weight. Top speed is
around 100mph and 1/4 mile is low 17 sec. Due to it's historic nature I
really didn't want to modify it too much and an engine swap was right
out.

After looking at a number of different options I decided to build a
brand new one, with a modern engine in a mid-engine configuration.
Target weight is 650kg (umm... 1430lb?) with hopes for around 300hp, so
power-to-weight and outright power should both be adequate.

I've had a brand new body made and have bought a Subrau Legacy turbo
motor and front wheel drive gearbox, which will of course be rear wheel
drive when the engine is installed at the back. The WRX is so popular
here that there is a huge amount of performance gear available and
second hand parts are dirt cheap.

That's as far as it has progressed for the moment, but I hope to start
work on the chassis prototype (tube spaceframe) sometime in the next
month.

I'll actually be photographing some of the other Bolwell models tomorrow
as I am producing a brochure for the club
(http://www.bolwellcarclub.com.au/index2.htm) to hand out at car shows
and the like, so I can combine the two hobbies some of the time!
