Yes, that's often the case... My uncle though, he has a camera with some kind of memory function. It can record continously, saving a buffer of images some seconds long, and when you just missed a shot you can step back through the buffer and pull it out from there. You still have to see the motif through the viewfinder and have the camera switched on, but for some occasions it might save you the missed shot. Don't know about resolution and stuff, though. Probably quite poor.

Most likely it is an Olympus e-100RS. It has the option to save shots to a buffer and you can go back to a shot that happened before you actually click the shutter. As long as you keep the shutter depressed halfway it is recording. I have one but find this function nearly useless since the shutter lag is sooo bad you STILL can't catch any fast action. Plus it is only 1.3 megapixel therefore useless for all but web use and maybe a 4x6. Other cameras may have a similar function but the Olympus is the only one I know of offhand.
