Since he formatted the card on a MAC, God only knows what was done to it. (Oh MAC weenies might know, but then they use an operating system that shields them from all that, so they might not. Which is both good and bad).

Almost all cards will use FAT16 by default which is the most compatible, but FAT16 does not work for the really big drives which need FAT32. Any digicam which supports FAT32 (large cards) will also support FAT16. *istD will recognise either.
There is another microsoft format called NTFS wich stands for Windows NT File System. It is *unlikely* you formatted the card in this format but I guess it is possible...
