Just got back from a Sunday morning swim and sat down to do timesheets
and expenses and the Mrs looks out of the window and spots some fowl in
the field just the other side of the fence. 'Oh I saw one of those the
other day - a Partridge, isn't it?'

I stick my glasses back on and draw breath. 'It's a Kestrel, woman. Don't
move!'

It's all of 25 feet away. I gingerly drop below the windowsill and ferret
about for a bag. She (the Kestrel) is plucking at a field mouse or
something, stopping every now and again for a quick squint to see who's about.

Out comes the digi, on goes a 1.4 converter, on goes the Stigma 70-200
and up we go. I sit on the windowsill and as quiet as a cat, crack the
window - if I can just get 4 or 5 inches, I can just slide the lens
through and I'll have a clear shot. Every time she looks up from her
meal, I freeze. I only move when her head is down in the grass or
straight on to me.

I'm just about to move the lens into position and she takes off! But she
takes off right towards us, and moves slowly up in the stiff breeze and
lands on the roof, I guess. She gave us a belly view at about seven or
eight feet distance, it was beautiful. No chance of getting the shot, it
was still too fast, even though it lasted ages.

A Kestrel looks like this:

I see them a lot, hovering by the side of the road at about 30 or 40
feet, looking for some lunch.

Woulda been a nice shot though.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Cheers,
  Cotty
