I bought my *ist D because I already owned a collection of lenses.

I still expected to buy more lenses after purchasing it.  The 16-45/4
was a given.  I might get the 14/2.8 (depending on cost).  I would
likely purchase a telezoom for it if a quality one was available.

I think most DSLR purchasers realize that the crop factor means that
you'll want to get some new lenses to cover different focal ranges.

On the other hand my primes are similar, I just want a wide prime to
go with them.  The 24 has become a wide normal (like a 35).  The 35
has become normal.  The 50 is a short telephoto.
