If there's one thing I hate, it's someone telling me "if you'd have done this, or gotten that, or changed the angle, or whatever, your shot would be so much better". My attitude about my shots is, the shot's the shot. Don't tell me what "could have been". It is what you see, so comment on that.
So, you know what I'm going to do now? Exactly what I just told you I hate!
I wish I could have seen a shot with the sign you describe in it. Or something else to tell me that it was a spontaneous grab. Quite frankly, knowing what I now know changes my perception of the photo somewhat. Maybe it's the title that put me off on my little tangent, I don't know (that being said, I can't title my photos worth a damn, so again, don't take my criticism as any implication that I think I can do better).
There's just something that I can't put my finger on that's needed. But, I'm glad that you're taking my criticisms in the spirit in which they were intended, and that you realize that these things are pretty subjective, so who really cares what I think anyway, right? <vbg>

Thanks for the critique Frank.My ego is not that delicate that I cant take everyone's divergent opinions.The ones I have got seem to agree that the colour shot is "better".Me too.Just a short note,the shot was totally spontaneous,I wish that I could have set it up more to get more of his face and possibly a better exposure.He was in the shadows as if trying to hide.A sign at his feet stated"It may not be much,but it's the best I've got.I'm fortunate I got what I did.By the the way I liked your shot.
