MEK is fairly toxic compared to alcohol and acetone and dissolves a lot of things one normally finds around electronics, especially a lot of plastics.

Acetone has pretty much the same capacity to "burn" the polycarbonate. Hopefully not as toxic. I use it with care : Q-tip soaked but not dripping, so that I will apply it only on the grease spot on the element.
