That assumes you are not following the thread. In a conversation you do not repeat what everyone else said before you make your response. The joke is not only not funny, it is rediculous in concept.

Doing it this way, someone who has read your joke knows what you are talking about and someone who has not can page down. The quote is only there as a footnote. Footnotes traditionally go at the bottom of the page*.
