Grain Surgery works well on digital grain provided it is large enough. i don't like how it works on small grain. removes too much detail compared to NeatImage. since i want and prefer automation, i bought NeatImage Pro+ so that i could have it as a Photoshop plugin. do some experiments. i generally don't use the noise reduction plugins unless i am shooting ISO 800 or higher on the *istD. on the Nikon Coolpix 5000, i use the chroma noise filter a lot even on ISO 100 images.
