Go West, young man. West is best.

Start at Glasgow and drive past Loch Lomond then on to Glen Coe. Turn left at Loch Leven and head for Oban. Then go anywhere you want. It's all magical. God made this bit of the planet last, after he'd had some practice.

Skye is owned by the sheep of the MacDonald clan, which is why there are no trees. This makes for a somewhat barren landscape which is not to everyone's taste. Some think that getting to Skye is better than actually being there, though if you like your mountains craggy, the Cuillins on Skye will suit you fine.

You should probably avoid the Outer Hebrides unless you like especially harsh landscapes. There are no mountains, and if you find yourself on North Uist (which has one of the world's best beaches) on a Sunday, don't look as though you are enjoying yourself. Get to the South quickly where the Catholics will welcome you warmly.

There's no need to do too much planning, and unless you've got heaps of time you'll find that Oban and its environs will provide all the scenery you could want.

If you like seals, there are places where you can hire small motorboats and visit the seal colonies.

Climb a hill near Oban at dusk, and watch the lights come on in the islands, and hear the cattle lowing across the still water. The sky will be like black velvet studded with diamonds.

Have a nice time. Prepare for rain, and be happy if you are spared.

Thinking about going to Scotland in May for a week or two. I've been to
Edinburgh for a day, through the Grampians over a weekend, and to Aberdeen

be most welcome.

Of course I'll have a Pentax or two with me....

Thanks,
