Anybody want to speak up in favor of this lens from an optical standpoint?

I will!
I have an M20/4 and I like it very much. I'm not the sort of person who takes lots of photos of brick walls and analyzes them for distortion. I use cameras and lenses for the fun of it. This lens was the most used when I went on a walking trip in the Rockies a couple of years ago and the pictures were great. Nothing screamed "horrible distortion" to me
Then again, I'm one of those people who likes the 40mm pancake lens and the M85/2 so I may just have mediocre taste :-)
