Actually, according to HP brochure, CCD sensors are rectangular and
overlap by 50% of their length so there are no gaps in between (sorry
everybody for the ASCII art, switch to text mode if it doesn't make
sense):

Therefore, it should do better than Fuji's octagonal pattern.
