Well, you'd probably have grounds for putting up a spirited argument along those lines, but revenue-collectors aren't noted for their understanding and leniency in my experienct. In practice I think it'd get taxed again, and the recipient would have to decide whether or not to try and chase it up. The original receipt would be necessary, at the very least.
