What I meant by "it is like shooting with a Spotmatic" is that you
take a meter reading in a seperate step from the rest of preparing for
a shot.  On a Spotmatic you turn on the meter which stops down the
lens and then you do needle matching.  On the *ist D you press the
green button which stops down the lens and picks a shutter speed for
you.
