if your bank is tied into one of the networks that is available in the US
(Cirrus is the big one internationally), you can make withdrawals from your
bank account here in USD with your EFTPOS card. this is what i did when i
traveled away from the US into places like Europe and NZ. you get a good
exchange rate and you don't have to carry a lot of cash. you shouldn't need
more than taxi/lunch money for a couple of days at any time.
