1. The 70-210 f/3.5 that used 67mm filter was the earlier version, and was
made by Kiron, starting in 1982. The 70-210 f/3.5 that used 62mm filters
was the later version and was made by Tokina, starting in 1974. Which
version poses the problem?

There were two later Series 1 70-210s

The f/2.8-3.5 model, introduced in 1984, was made by Komine Ltd. of Japan
and used 62mm filters.

The f/2.8-4.0 model, introduced in 1986, used 58mm filters. I don't know
who made it.

Can anyone report whether either of the latter two versions exhibit this
problem?

2. The Vivitar 28/2 Close Focus (55 filters) was not a Series 1; only the
28/1.9 (58 mm filter) was a Series 1. But reportedly the 28/2 CF is nearly
as good.

They must have built more than one version of the mount: my S1 70-210
doesn't have the ridge at all. Perhaps it's a later version, after
they discovered the problem with their oversized one? It's only there
to protect the diaphragm coupling, anyway...
