Yep, the reflection is what did it for me. Without that I wouldn't have even bothered taking the shot. >http://www.robertstech.com/temp/pages/7d401014.htm >a very tranquil feel to it Probably about a 30-second exposure. (The place where I sent these slides for processing put them in cardboard mounts, so I'm not going to peel open the mount and check the data imprinting on the film :) >http://www.robertstech.com/temp/pages/7d400817.htm >great light and a wonderful mood Did you notice that the most distant rock in this shot is the same one as in the previous one you mentioned? Different day, different vantage point. The light was good all week. >Good, but not great: >http://www.robertstech.com/temp/pages/7d400403.htm >I like the egrets in breeding plumage but the light seems a little too harsh >and the birds too small. Assuming you meant shot 7d400404, you're right on both counts. I would have liked to wait until the sun was lower but it wasn't going to happen that day. Also, because this nesting sanctuary is in a canyon, I'm not sure if the light would ever be really good. perhaps in overcast or slightly foggy conditions. Since this is in the sanctuary, this is as close as I could get to the nests. They have an observation area set up. It's a good view, but you need more than 600mm to really fill the frame. They really do need to keep people away from the nesting area though: Just before I came through there was a class of school kids on a field trip coming through. They seemed to think that the sign reading "Quiet please - Nesting Area" meant "scream at slightly lower than normal volume". >http://www.robertstech.com/temp/pages/7d400325.htm >nice light but the left hand boulder is too imposing on the rest of the >shot. it feels unbalanced Well, I took that one just because it's my girlfriend. She is a little unbalanced, but then she lives with me so what would you expect? -- Mark Roberts Photography and writing www.robertstech.com
