Michael Reichmann of the Luminous Landscape web site has said "The camera manufacturer has no right in the world to tell me what height-to-width ratio my photos are going to be!" I agree completely. I try to frame my shots to use the frame of the format I'm using at the time, simply to minimize the amount of magnification (and resulting grain/noise) in the final print. But if that doesn't work I have no philosophical problem. I've done square format, 3:4 ratio and 4:5 ratio prints from 35mm film. -- Mark Roberts Photography and writing www.robertstech.com
