Hi Bob,Just a quick one.Gaelic Football first began in Dublin and the first club was in evidence circa 1890.Aussie Rules began as a bunch of hooligans (cricketers)getting exercise in the off season in Melbourne. It is based off (loosely)Rugby Union and was first officially played as something like its current form in 1855.A Melbournian studying at Rugby College in England brought back the now standardised Rugby ball to replace the original round ball(leather stuffed with a pigs bladder)supplied by the local publican at great cost. The game ended if the ball exploded as no one could afford more than one per game. The Melbournian returned with this ball and suggested:Lets have "A game of our own",the title of the definitive book about the origins of AFL.Includes original rule books and wonderfull 'photos.Should be available at your local library.AFL predates Gaelic Football by about 45 years. Your father obviously has class. Regards Chris Kennedy
