Hi Ann
you can use the hot shoe or the thingy :-)
The Pentax ME does not support TTL Flash, set the Flash to an auto range
depending on the distance you will use, read the aperture setting on the
flash scale for the given distance and set that aperture on the Pentax too.
Set the Pentax to the 100x setting, and you will not see trough the
viewfinder, when the flash is ready. The Flash sensor will control the amount
of light, not the camera as with TTL-Flash.
In other words, you have to set everything manually.
For automatic settings you need a dedicated Pentax Flash or a flash
with Pentax SCA adapter for ex. from Metz or Braun.

I have the Vivitar 285 flash -
THe ME has a hot shoe and a side thingy --
IF I use the 285 with it, can I use the auto
setting
on the ME? Or do I use the 100x setting ?
Will it TTL with the 285?
