The lens is unusual so I thought I would post a couple
of pix of it. Very tiny, the front element is less than
1/2 inch wide. Even though it is designed for closeup
(the "micro" prefix) is has a relatively wide field and
covers 4x5 at infinity.

Not exactly right but close enough. Sorry there was no prize.

Camera - 60 yr old 4x5 speed graphic with focal plne shutter, $125
Lens - 40 yr old Wollensak 115mm F12.5 "Micro-Raptar", coated, but not MC,
$50

Total cost lens and camera a whopping $175.

I shot the image to test two things at once. Mainly the film which
was over 3 years outdated, and secondly the lens which I had never
tried with color.

Film - Kodak 4x5 Portra 160NC outdated, 1/2001 ( I got this film for
nothing )
Exposure - Open Flash, Effective aperture F50, not a typo, eff-fifty
Scanned with a epson 3200 at 1600 dpi for a master file approx 50 Mpixels
Lens was extended to approx 180mm via bellows for a magnification of
approx 1:2

Looks to me like both the lens and the film are fine, but even at f50,
there wasnt enough DOF to get everything sharp in a setup like this.

Thanks to all for guessing, it was kinda fun hearing the guesses and the
logic
behind them. I think this pretty much proves you dont need a lot of money
or latest technology to get some really good results. Modern films
certainly help the situation.

I think this is shot with a cheap old large format press camera on low ISO
negative film.

Gotta guess something...:-)
