Yesterday I wanted to copy my pictures from my optio s to my computer.
The problem is that I can't copy about 10 files from the 100 and some of
the others are somehow damaged. at the bottom of the pictures is a grey
stripe in different sizes. When I try to copy the damaged file a get a
messege like "Can't copy file because it is damaged" or something like
that. Is there a tool that can repair the files? when I look at the thumbnails
of the files with the grey stripes they look ok. I had this problem once before, but I just deleted the pic because it
wasn't an important one. But these pictures are from japan and I really
want them. Is there a way to prevent this happen? or is there something
wrong with my memory card?
I've had this happen occasionally with image files. What I did was to use other viewers until I got one to read the file. In my case, that was usually QPV, a DOS programme, but I think it unlikely that it supports modern, progressive jpegs. Once loaded into the viewer, I resaved it. This kept the file in its present state and I could then load it into a manipulation programme and crop the damaged part and save again.
Not entirely a suitable procedure, for multiple reasons, but it might salvage images for you if nothing better works.
