That's like driving at only 10mph to ensure that your tires have a good grip on a nice clean road. I don't think it's a problem. I suspect part of the legend has be spurned by the bizzare ramblings of a few audiophiles who swear that they can hear the difference between a 1x mastered CD and disc written at faster than play speed.
