bcin> Am i looking in the wrong program.??

No, you are looking in the wrong forum :)

However, to shed some light on it, I will try:

Nikon View is a free software with the camera. It offers an image
browser (thumbnails and simple batch operations), image viewer and a
simple editor, all of which works on jpeg, tif and nef (raw) files. In
the editor, you can change white balance and exposure, sharpening and colour
balance,... , but only in a limited scope (e.g. no eye dropper tool, no
WB in Kelvins, only as "cloudy" and similar).

Nikon Capture is a pro, $ version, offering remote control of the
camera from computer, advanced image editor with many tools for
converting raw files and such. There is a trial (30 day) version of
it.

Both programs do a good job on converting raw files, and both offer
conversion into 16 bit TIFF, if I am not mistaken. However, the
Capture is much more refined in its options like denoise, sharpening,
white balance, reduce moire, etc... as well as remote control, which
is indispensable for the studio.

Now, was that answer to the original question :) ?

Best regards,
