since you are able to open the file in PS, you are getting the file import plugin to work. that's important since otherwise i would say that your installation was broken. you can permanently add PS 6 to the dialog as one of the programs to open NEF files with. you can change the association for NEF to PS 6. you get white balance and exposure compensation setting changes only. you can also export as a JPG and edit the file that way with no setting changes possible. as far as i am concerned, those are the only setting changes you want to do in the Nikon program anyway. the only important feature that Capture has that bare Photoshop 6 doesn't have at least a good a tool for is nosie reduction and that is because there isn't camera-specific knowledge in Photoshop for the digital noise in the camera. there are very few other functions i can think of in Capture that isn't done better in Photoshop, even Photoshop 6. like i said, i have a registered version of Capture and it was necessary for a while but now that i have Photoshop CS, it's not.
