William Kane stopped waiting for Frank Miller long enough to write:

"As we wax philisophically, I would like to note that Math is an
invention of humans. Sure, we can apply math to natural phenomenon,
but this makes it no less of a model that describes a portion of the
universe any more than quantum physics, or any other theory for that
matter. Just a thought, not a criticism or a comment."

Let's not forget the context of mathematics and the scientific method. They
greatly decreased the foolishness that's masqueraded as science for
thousands of years. Plagues were punishments from god until they discovered
microorganisms. Crop failures and other calamities were blamed on witches.
Etc etc. The scientific method helped do away with most of that.
