Yes but both of those are available today. The A* lens is discontinued and hence has a higher value. Its called supply and demand. There's also little sense in trying to understand the actions of what is probably a Pentax collector. An old civil war era camera probably takes rather blurry pictures by today's standards, but you find them selling for less than 10 times the price of a modern camera.

The lens is rare, and some would say good, but good lenses are not hard to find nowadays for much less money. Let's see, my Nikon D100 and AF 135/2 DC lens together cost just a little more than this guy spent for one old Pentax manual focus A* 135/1.8. In other words, for that kind of money, one can switch brands and get a pretty darn good lens and a camera to go with it for the same money. At B&H, the Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L USM Autofocus Lens is $859 new; Nikon AF DC Nikkor 135mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens is $1069 new. Both these lenses run about $650 used. -- John Mustarde www.photolin.com
