Some people made a external battery compartment. I even remember reading that a manufacturer made one. With a cord - so you can keep the battery in a pocket or some other relativly warm place. You would need a screw-in contact thing to put in the camera. I don't know how "long" the camera will work, tough. A K1000 would be my choise as well (since I already got one). But I gues many different maunal cameras might do just as well.
