Hi ....

The print looks flat on my monitor, and not particularly sharp. Did you
say that you don't have a good scanner and editing software? Regardless,
the photo itself is quite ordinary, as you said. There are a gazillion
shots of people reading their morning paper while having a coffee at an
outdoor cafe. In order to make a shot like this rise above average, timing
and framing is critical. The subject's not going anywhere, so you've time
to wait for an interesting movement, expression, or for other elements to
come together to create an exciting pattern or juxtaposition, Did you
really want the partial woman and her handbag in the frame, exactly where
she is? How about the guy growing out of your subject's head? The out of
focus newspaper in the foreground? I'm not saying they shouldn't be there.
just wondering if you wanted them there.

Is there something that the woman is blocking that could add to the
photograph, such as an interesting sign or a building, that might give your
photo more "depth?" Or is she blocking a very distracting element? I kind
of like the OOF newspaper in the foreground, but how might this scene look
without it, or with it in a different position? Did you take this one
shot, or did you make several exposures, looking for different
relationships, or for the elements to come together in a different way?

It's a so-so pic, and even with a variety of other possibilities, it may
never have gotten much further along. A nice little snap of a typical
scene, nothing more, but with the possibility of being more. You say it's
an ordinary shot. Is that what you want to do, just make ordinary photos?
