It's not all about MP. Some 8MP cameras didn't get very good reviews! It's about making a camera that will sell and can become the base for a versatile lens and accessory system, that will satisfy many photographers - and at a reasonable price. That's what the *ist D is, isn't it? I guess it's not abig problem upgrading the SONY chip from time to time with the latest technology 8-10-16-20-32MP. All the best
