Correction: The problem is that a good SLR system is - economically - 90% lenses and 10% bodies. That's what professionals will buy. But most people will maximum buy 50/50. That's why pro camera manufacturers can sell expensive bodies. Small companies have to make relativly expensive bodies to compete - and then try to reduce lens costs. That probably why Pentax does not have IS and have started to make lenses without aperture rings. Jens

I very much doubt that lens sales enters into the decision-making procedure; the fact that there may be some new lens sales is no more than a bonus. The primary decison is "if we put a mechanical aperture coupler in the body, will we be able to make enough extra income to make up for the additional cost in research, engineering, testing & manufacture?".
