I'm very happy with the FA 28-105, although I have very little experience with autofocus zooms. It's become my favorite walkaround lens with the *ist-D. The range is near perfect for most of what I shoot on a just-for-fun photo walk. I can't fault the sharpeness, although I rarely use it wide open. I've made 12 x18 prints that are very sharp to my eye from exposures made at f8. Sometimes I combine it with a 17-35 Sigma if I want more coverage at the wide end.

Hi

I am wondering if it is worth upgrading from a FA28-70 f4 to a FA28-105
f3.2-4.5?

Obviously the 28-105 has a longer range and is a bit faster at the short end
while (being the same size and weight as the 28-70), but, does it have any
cons that outweigh the pros?

As an aside, I was going to sell my 28-70 f4 when I bought an istD and
DA16-45. The 16-45 is a great general purpose lens for the istD (being an
effective 24-70) but I have found the 28-70 to be a useful portrait/people
lens. On the istD the 28-70 is for all practical purposes a 42-105. I like
its light weight and small size and the fact that my istD doesn't topple
over with this lens unlike the heavier 16-45. I also like that it can be
used with the built in flash whereas the 16-45 is limited in this regard.

Having said that I would like a bit longer reach and in this regard I am
interested in the 28-105. (I considered the 24-90 but is is bigger, heavier
and 40% more expensive than the 28-105).
