the President of Pentax made some press statements yesterday about their plans, announcing that they have stabilized profits and can start investing in R&D again, spending about 200B yen in the next fiscal year. approximately half will go to the endoscope business and most of the rest going to their optical pickup business. an important part has been set aside for merging and growing their artificial bone business they just bought. the company plans to stop making any digital cameras of less than 4 megapixels and concentrate on the 4+ megapixel and DSLR camera business in their camera division. no mention of film cameras.
