I have the F 70-210 zoom, and I would be less likely to use it on a manual focus camera because of the poor manual focus feel alone. The loose focus feel (giving a feeling of imprecision) and very thin manual focus ring, I think, knock it out of contention for use with an all-manual (and manual focus) camera in favor of the M 80-200, even without taking the variable aperture issue into consideration.

So have you ever shot with such a zoom on manual camera? This seems to me like you didn't. Adjusting exposure WHENEVER you change the zoom setting is far from convenient, it's a complete "pita". Especially with a camera with full stop shutter speeds (as most manual cameras have)
