Hi, Malcolm,

Thanks for your thoughts.  I know you were being
tongue-in-cheek about the "dogs walking in Canada"
thing, but in wintertime, walking the dog can be a
problem, as I understand it (not being a dog person
myself I speak not from first hand experience).

It's not so much the cold (although coats and sweaters
can be bought, and fashion seems to be quite
important), but rather that places like Toronto that
over-use ice-melting salt on the sidewalks wreak havok
on sensitive doggie paws.

The coarse salt crystals can cut the pads, and then
the salty brine that covers the sidewalks gets into
the fissures and really hurt.

So, booties made or neoprene or such materials seem to
be de rigeur in Toronto in the winter.  And, one sees
lots of dogs being carried, as in this photo (which
was taken in early March).
