What I don't see is the price (or the need for a lens that only goes
to 38 but reaches 400-odd equivalent in a commodity camera). If they

They are both house brands (I personally don't touch one of them with
a bargepole) and thus appeal to a certain large class of buyers. Sony
make the sensors on Pentax and Nikon DSLRs; they certainly have
something to do with photography now. And the lenses they both use are
outsourced. So which bits of photographic equipment is it that
Panasonic and Sony cannot do?

How many lines do you want/expect them to pursue at the same time?

Keep working on the Baby-D and the FF DSLR while churning out
innovative P&Ss, is what I say.
